“Because I have a personal relationship with God, I go forward in peace.” -Della Reese Lett, God is My Strength
Our beloved Della Reese Lett has released her physical body for an invisible one. We will miss her. We bless her and give thanks for the footprint she has made globally for God and for the New Thought Movement.
The Rev. Dr. Della Reese Lett, fondly referred to as “Rev. Della,” was ordained into ministry over 30 years ago by Dr. Johnnie Colemon, founder of the Universal Foundation for Better Living, Inc. (UFBL). Rev. Della went on to found her own ministry, Understanding Principles Church for Better Living (UP Church) in Los Angeles.
Using her church platform and her extended platform of music, television, movies, and books, Rev. Della introduced people to a loving God whose love includes everyone. Her leadership example inspired many to offer their gifts and talents in service to God’s work. She retired from active ministry in 2015 and named the Rev. Sherri James as her successor. UP Church continues to thrive under Rev. James’ leadership.
Rev. Della was a renowned author, songwriter, actress, musician, singer, and voiceover artist, but in the UFBL, we thought of her as Dr. Colemon’s “Buddy.” From television commercials to the popular “Touched By An Angel” CBS television series to Oprah’s “Legends,” Rev. Della always sought to encourage others in ways that inspired hope and faith in their God-given potential. She loved children and authored a children’s book and more than five titles for adults. Her book Angels Along the Way recounts her God-directed healing journey and Dr. Colemon’s role in her demonstration of wholeness. Rev. Della’s classic jazz albums and gospel albums are savored by many.
We, Rev. Della’s spiritual family, bless her and know that the seeds she has sown globally produce bountiful harvests now and always. We thank you for your prayers and well wishes. Let’s hold the highest vision of love for Rev. Della, her family, her friends, and the UP Church spiritual community. God bless you.
