“It has been found by experience that a person increases his blessings by being grateful for what he has.”– Charles Fillmore, Dynamics for Living
How blessed we are to celebrate yet another Thanksgiving holiday. Even if your country celebrates at another time of year or has no such holiday, create your own. A day of gratitude can only benefit you, me, and our world. Here are some powerful tips relating to your power to give thanks from Unity’s cofounder, Charles Fillmore, and author/minister, Mary Kupferle:
1) Thanks and praise increases. Whatever your heart’s desire may be, turn the power of praise and thanksgiving upon it. Do so faithfully, potently, and lovingly. Fillmore writes, “You can praise yourself from weakness to strength, from ignorance to intelligence, from lack to affluence, from sickness to health.” Identify what you’d like to see increase in your life, your family, and the world. Turn your power of praise on that very thing. Watch what happens.
2) Give thanks in the expectation that better is your birthright. In the Universal Foundation for Better Living, Inc., we teach that “it is God’s will that every individual on the face of this earth live a healthy, happy, and prosperous life.” When you pray, give thanks for better—for you, your colleagues, your family, and the people of the world. Accept that God’s will is being fulfilled as you and as others. Fillmore says, “If we pray thinking that we do not deserve the things for which we ask, these untrue and indefinite thoughts carry themselves out, and we grow to look upon prayer with doubt and suspicion.” Where there is doubt, there is fear, and God did not give us a spirit of fear. Give thanks, beginning today, knowing that God’s will for you is happiness.
3) Do not wait for perfect conditions to give thanks. It is always a good time to give thanks. Mary Kupferle writes that we should thank God “when you feel well and when you do not, when you feel lost and when you feel assured, when you do not know the way to go and when you do, when you laugh and when you cry, when you feel filled with faith, and especially when you do not!” (Kupferle’s, God Will See You Through, pg. 66-67)
We in the U.F.B.L. have the power to praise our spiritual family and therefore raise it to greater heights. Our founder, Dr. Johnnie Colemon, said: “What you praise, you raise.” Let’s raise the roof by giving thanks for our dear U.F.B.L., every ministry, every person, every family, and all the lives that are better because of this potent teaching. Let’s give thanks for what God has done and is doing through you, me, and as our organization.
From the Universal Foundation for Better Living, Inc. family to you and yours, Happy Thanksgiving!
